Proverbs 15:18 NASB – 18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, But the slow to anger calms a dispute.
I am doing a quick write this morning to comment on events that took place yesterday here in the United States Capitol. I was going to wait until after the inauguration of our next president to comment, but to remain silent at the moment would not be good. I have always taken some comfort that despite our differences in American politics, we could count on a peaceful transference of power. Last night proved that was a false comfort.
The American Charismatic has to own their share responsibility for marrying the church to politics that in then end has led to inciting violence.
There has been a narrative for some time spoken in hush terms that God has anointed Trump to be our next president and any other view is deception.
When Old Testament Israel wanted a king (political leader) to represent them, this was the response by God to the prophet Samuel:
- 1 Samuel 8:6-8 NASB – 6 But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the LORD. 7 The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them. 8 “Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day–in that they have forsaken Me and served other gods–so they are doing to you also.
When we need a human face to lead us, it is because we are rejecting the leadership of God. I didn’t say that, God did. When will we ever learn that what can be written but one administration can be unwritten by the next? When will the church learn to love those in need to change their hearts instead of entrusting politicians to legislate what the church is unwilling to do? What was it Jesus said for us to do?
- Luke 6:27 NASB – 27 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
Apparently Jesus had a different plan to conquer the world rather than incite violence. And this was while under an occupying force of the Roman government who would go on to lead one of the worst persecutions against the church ever. We are too quick to take up the sword to protect ourselves instead of trusting that God can do far above what we dare to ask or imagine.
Search YouTube for “White Evangelical Meltdown” and one will come up with an endless string of “prophets” stating that they were all told Trump would win the election. To trace that narrative back to its roots would take several posts that I am not prepared to go into at the moment.
I know many Charismatics afraid to speak openly about how this hush hush God’s anointed montage is bringing disrepute upon American Churches. It has only served to embolden violence.
- Proverbs 17:14 NASB – 14 The beginning of strife is [like] letting out water, So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out.
Instead of following this advice, many “me too” people claiming to be prophets have only stoked the flames of violence by insisting that it is God’s will to put a human face in politics to lead God’s people. God alone wants that place in our hearts. The God of all the universe has placed His Spirit within us to eternally guide and lead us. Instead we are trading that in for a four year term.
No matter what happens in American politics, please remember, at this time especially, to love much my friends . . .
